Full Arch Dental Implants in Miami & Key Biscayne, FL

Dr. Hernan Quintero

What are full-arch dental implants?

Rebuilding an entire arch of teeth is at the center of what my specialty does. Full-arch dental implants support a complete set of replacement teeth in either the upper or lower jaw.

This treatment is designed for patients who have lost all their teeth in an arch or have teeth that can no longer be saved. Using three-dimensional imaging, we determine where the supporting implants should be placed.

We then attach a prosthesis that can either be removable or fixed in place, depending on the treatment plan and the patient's needs.

Who is a candidate for full-arch dental implants?

Many patients may be candidates for full-arch dental implants, provided they have adequate bone support and are healthy enough for implant surgery.

If there isn't enough bone, we may be able to perform bone grafting or other procedures to rebuild the area. However, not every patient requires or qualifies for additional bone procedures.

Smoking and uncontrolled diabetes are important risk factors because they can affect healing and increase the likelihood of implant complications. We'll evaluate your medical history and oral health before recommending treatment.

Why do dentures move, and how do implants help?

Traditional dentures rest on the gum tissue, which is why they can sometimes shift during eating or speaking. Food may also become trapped underneath them.

When we add implants to support a denture, we create a more stable foundation. Whether the restoration remains removable or becomes fixed, implant support can significantly reduce movement and improve chewing comfort.

Although implant-supported restorations still require cleaning and maintenance, they can provide greater stability than conventional dentures.

What is the first step in the full-arch implant process?

The first step is a three-dimensional scan, also called a cone beam CT or CBCT scan. This allows us to evaluate the volume, height, and location of your jawbone.

Using that information, we can plan the position of the implants and determine whether additional procedures may be necessary before placement.

What happens during the full-arch implant design phase?

The next step is designing your new smile. We create a digital rendering of the planned restoration, similar to how an architect creates a rendering of a house before construction begins.

This allows us to evaluate the proposed appearance and function of your replacement teeth before treatment starts. You'll also have an opportunity to see what we're planning and discuss your preferences.

Can you get full-arch dental implants in one day?

In select cases, we can provide what we call teeth in a day. This involves extracting any remaining failing teeth, placing the implants in their planned positions, and attaching a temporary fixed prosthesis during the same visit.

This approach depends on the stability of the implants and the patient's individual circumstances.

After placement, we allow the implants to heal and integrate with the surrounding bone. This healing period may take approximately six months before we move forward with the final restoration.

The permanent prosthesis may be made from acrylic-based materials, ceramic, or other appropriate restorative materials, depending on the treatment plan.

How long does the full-arch implant process take?

From the initial planning appointments through the final restoration, the full-arch implant process may take approximately 9 to 12 months.

The exact timeline depends on whether extractions, bone grafting, or other preparatory procedures are necessary, along with how quickly the implants integrate with the surrounding bone.

Is full-arch dental implant surgery painful?

Full-arch implant placement is a surgical procedure, so some discomfort, swelling, and soreness during recovery are expected.

We use appropriate anesthesia and pain management techniques to help keep you comfortable during treatment. For more extensive cases, we may work alongside an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and an anesthesiologist.

After surgery, we'll provide instructions and recommendations to help you manage discomfort while the area heals.

How long does an implant-supported prosthesis last?

With proper care, implant-supported restorations can last for many years, and some may remain functional for 20 to 25 years or longer. However, their lifespan depends on the materials used, oral hygiene, biting forces, and the health of the surrounding tissues.

Maintenance is important, just as it is with natural teeth. In our practice, we typically recommend follow-up visits every four months to monitor the implants, restoration, and surrounding gums.

Depending on the type of prosthesis and its condition, we may also recommend periodic removal for a more thorough examination and cleaning. Components such as prosthetic screws are evaluated and replaced when necessary.

Can you change the appearance of your smile with full-arch implants?

Yes. Because we're rebuilding an entire arch of teeth, we have an opportunity to make changes to the appearance of your smile.

We can discuss the color, shape, size, and overall arrangement of your replacement teeth. Some patients want to recreate the smile they had when they were younger, while others want to make aesthetic changes.

We'll consider your facial features, bite, and personal preferences when designing the restoration.

How much do full-arch dental implants cost?

The cost of full-arch dental implants depends on the number of implants needed, the type of prosthesis, the materials selected, and the complexity of your treatment.

Generally, treatment may range from approximately $25,000 to $40,000 per arch, although more complex cases can cost more.

At HQ Dontics, we offer financing options, including in-house payment arrangements and third-party providers such as CareCredit, Sunbit, and Cherry. Promotional no-interest financing may be available to qualified applicants, depending on the program and its terms.

During your consultation, we'll review the recommended treatment, provide a cost estimate, and discuss available payment options so you understand the financial commitment before moving forward.
